The security expert and legal specialist Ammar Al-Qudah stated that the rising drug cases in Jordan indicated active involvement by drug traffickers, distributors, and users.

Al-Qudah mentioned in an interview with Roya on Wednesday that around 69 million Captagon pills were seized in 2022, along with other narcotics. He highlighted that the last three years saw an increase in drug production from Syrian territories, with continued smuggling and border breaches by organized, militia-backed groups pushing these quantities into Jordan.

He revealed that about 80% of Captagon production occurred in Syria within 300 sites, exporting to various countries. He clarified that the law punishes possession of narcotics, noting that the penalty for possessing crystal meth for personal use differs from that for hashish or Captagon.

Al-Qudah said the armed forces and security agencies confronted drug trafficking and trade with determination due to its impact on national security and societal peace. He confirmed that the drug problem in Jordan had become tangible, with connections to murder and domestic violence cases.

The expert pointed out that Jordan lacked a national study showing the extent of drug abuse or the number of users. He believed that the law needed amendments, specifically merging penalties for promotion with those for promoters of these substances, emphasizing the necessity for continuous family awareness about the dangers of drugs.
